Gold
Beach was founded in 1855 and incorporated in 1945. It was
the last city in Oregon to incorporate. Gold Beach is the
County seat of Curry County.

Location: Gold Beach is located on the Southern Oregon Coast
where the famous Rogue River meets the powerful Pacific Ocean.
Gold Beach is located 37 miles north of the California border.
Industries: The main industries are tourism, agriculture,
commercial fishing, sport fishing, lumber and wood products.
Port of Gold Beach: The Port has dock and moorage facilities
for 151 recreational craft and 33 commercial; some with water
and electric hook-ups, gas and diesel fuel available; enclosed
compound and bay storage rentals; free launch. You can reach

Gold Beach Airport: Can accommodate aircraft up to and including
Lear Jets, Citations and King Airs, and is located within
walking distance of shopping, lodging, dining and the harbor.
The Gold Beach Airport has a runway, 16/34, paved 3200' x
75'. The elevation is 16; above sea level, with full length
paved taxi-way with center connection, large paved ramp with
42 permanent tie downs. Medium intensity. It has pilot controlled
runway lighting with rotating beacon. A traffic indicator
windsock is located west of the runway. The airport approach
pattern is over the ocean. Unicom 122.8; ADF Beach 396 KHZ;
Identification, GOL. Both Jet A and 10011 octane fuel are
available. We enjoy more VFR days than any other coastal community.

Weather: Gold Beach experiences pleasant average highs of
65 to 70. During the winter months the average temperature
is around 45 to 50. The climate is very mild. Even though
Gold Beach receives an average of 70 to 80 inches of rain
a year, the area is in enviable position of having the highest
"total sun hours" on the Oregon Coast.
Education: Oregonians take pride in their excellent school
system. The Gold Beach School district is no exception to
this and offers excellent instruction and facilities for K
-12, including additional special education programs for the
handicapped student. The Gold Beach community prides itself
in the success of its students and the pride is highly visible
in the amount of publicity and support the community offers
to its students. Gold Beach has an Elementary school which
houses kindergarten through 8th grade and a High School for
9th through 12th grade. There is also an off campus facility
of Southwestern Oregon Community College.
Employment: Historically, the economy was primarily timber
and fishing, but in recent years has turned to tourism as
its economic mainstay. The largest employer in the area is
city, county, state and federal government.
Transportation: Charter aircraft service, passenger and (boat)
freight service upriver 52 miles; moorage and fuel at the
port of Gold Beach.
